Dan Bucknell
Dan began his conservation career with the Limbe Wildlife Centre in Cameroon, gaining hands-on experience working closely with rescued primates, eventually moving into field research as part of the Cross River Gorilla Research Programme, contributing to efforts to understand and protect one of the world’s rarest great ape populations. This led to working for the Gorilla Organization, where as Regional Programme Manager he oversaw a number of projects across multiple countries, fostering long-term partnerships, and helping to strengthen grassroots conservation capacity. In 2009, he joined Elephant Family as Head of Conservation and Campaigns, where he led programmes addressing human–elephant conflict, habitat loss, and species protection across Asia. His work combined conservation strategy, public engagement, and campaigning. Dan joined Tusk in 2014, stepping into a leadership role that has seen him champion conservation efforts across Africa and support the growth of the Tusk team in the UK.
