Edward Aruna
Edward Aruna is the Founder/Managing Director of the Reptile and Amphibian Program -Sierra Leone (RAP-SL). He started his career as a “Nature lover and keeper of wild animals as pets”. His love for nature led him to studying Biological Sciences at the Njala University up to the level of M.Sc. in Environmental Biology. During his university studies, Mr. Aruna became the first Sierra Leonean to list the five species of sea turtles in Sierra Leone and later continued campaigning for their protection and conservation at the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone for 12 years (2000 – 2012). At the Society, he rose to the position of Acting Director. His experience in Sierra Leone’s biodiversity led him to realizing the gap in information on reptiles and amphibians in the country. To bridge the gap, Mr. Aruna started RAP-SL in 2012. Since then, he has documented 62 reptiles and 69 amphibians in Sierra Leone through projects and consultancies.
