Ian Stevenson
Australian-born Ian Stevenson first arrived in the Lower Zambezi in 1997 and quickly found his calling in wildlife conservation. With more than 25 years’ experience in protected area management across Africa, Ian currently leads Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ), one of Zambia’s longest-standing conservation NGOs. Over the past three decades, CLZ has grown from a single operation into an organisation of over 100 employees. What began with support for foot patrols has expanded to include applied research, specialised operational units as well as an extensive environmental education programme reaching over 3,500 pupils from more than 70 schools. CLZ also runs a growing community programme focused on reducing human–wildlife conflict, all contributing to the long-term protection of the Lower Zambezi.
