Dr. Olivier Nsengimana
Olivier is the CEO and Founder of Rwanda Wildlife Conservation Association (RWCA) a local NGO in Rwanda that applies home-grown solutions to protect and restore threatened wildlife and wild places. Since the beginning RWCA has managed stop the illegal trade of Grey Crowned Cranes in Rwanda has nearly tripled their population. Using a model of community conservation and targeting the problem from all angles; through involving communities, creating jobs in conservation, improving livelihoods, education and raising awareness, habitat restoration and reducing threats to wildlife, Olivier believes this positive change can be sustained. He and his team are now using what they learned with cranes, and applying it to other threatened species in Rwanda including bats, Sitatunga antelope, Shoebill, African Grey Parrots and many others.
